World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day is an annual event organized by the International Union Against Cancer (UICC). This year, UICC will use World Cancer Day to launch the World Cancer Campaign 2007-2008, entitled Today’s children, tomorrow’s world. The focus of the campaign is cancer prevention.
WHO supports this initiative, which aims to draw attention to cancer as a global health problem. Cancer is a leading cause of death around the world. WHO estimates that 7.6 million people died of cancer in 2005, and 84 million people will die between 2005 and 2015 if action is not taken. WHO estimates that 40% of all cancer is preventable.
